With the various tools in the 23 things exercise, I'm establishing more and more accounts. All of these notes, including some post-its, with my username and password, adorning my computer. No way I could commit them all to memory. LibraryThing. How appropriate for 23 things. Pun definitely intended. Had never heard of this one, either. Misplaced the password (oh no!), and LT responded very quickly to my request to send it. That's what I call pretty good service.
I'd say LibraryThing local is definitely a cool feature. Helped me find book-related events, libraries, bookstores, etc. I put in 10 miles for the search area, and the program generated a hefty list of goings-on. All, the default, includes libraries, fairs/festivals and bookstores. I wonder if this site also lists book clubs in my home area. We occasionally get calls at work about that. Will need to search LT further. Its groups page is massive. I could spend a whole afternoon on this. Way too addicting. And I haven't even gone back to the LT list of favorite books I started in the past several days. Need to follow up on that. Whew!
So what's the deal here?
Welcome to the blog of Gwen, photographer/comic trapped in the body of an occasionally mild-mannered (but tenacious and dedicated) Reference Assistant. This is my effort to explore the true meaning of the 23 things designed to help us learn (master would be a bit too much for me to expect) Web 2.0.

Here's me
- Gwen--23(things)skidoo
- Mt. Prospect, Illinois
- Now that you ask, it's hard to put into words. Reserved at first, but tend to warm up with time. Hope never to lose my sense of humor... or my curiosity. A true wiseguy (there is another word that begins with an "s") pretty much since I could talk... Planning one of these days to return to the piano. Fascinated by the many ironies in (and of) life.
(Some of) my favorite things
- Cross Creek (old flick)
- Educating Rita (old flick)
- Julia (old flick)
- On the Waterfront (quite old flick)
- Out of Africa (old flick)
- The Verdict (I think this was my favorite Paul Newman movie.)
